Grand Teton National Park

Friday, July 1
We left Dubois, Wyoming early this morning, and I was so excited because I knew today would be one of the highlights of my trip.  I was going to Grand Teton National Park.

This was also the first (and I hope only) place along the route where I could not ride my bike, due to major road work.  So, there was a pickup truck at the site of the construction, and bikers just put their bikes inthe back, and the driver just drives you to the end of the construction site.  (maybe a 4 mile ride).  Ohwell, guess no different than taking a ferry across the Ohio River.

Dan had some bike issues and stopped for some repair early in the day, but I came on as I was anxious to get here.  The Tetons are majestic (no other word to describe them).   However, I didn't even realize that this is the holiday weekend - tend to lose track of what day it is.   So of course, this place is packed.  Luckily, a nice couple offered to share the campsite with me...so thankfully I am comfortable here.   Dan arrived late in the day and also was able to find a group that welcomed him to.

I am having some gear shifting issues on my bike.  An off day was planned for Saturday to enjoy the Park; however, I think I am going to see if I can find a ride to Jackson and find a bike shop to adjust my gears.

Pictures along the way today were just awesome:

Downtown Dubois, WY...a nice little western town

You never know what wild animals you will meet along the ride!

Tie Hack Memorial...deducted to the "Tie Hacks" - a special breed of logger who cut the ties that were used in the completion of the transcontinental railroad.

Coming up upon the Tetons

Yes, there is still plenty of snow here.  What day is it?? July 1st??

No words to describe this one!
